So our 1 year of boat ownership just passed; we have a Sundancer 310 with twin inboards. For the first year we have only ventured away from the dock if the winds were less then 10 knots. Everyone at our marina thinks that we are way to conservative. I wanted to gain some perspectives around your parameters for leaving the dock; as well as docking in the wind.
Typically my wife and I are both aboard; and our marina layout is pretty bad as the boats on either side of our slip both extend past their pilings and we have to dock stern in. When we do go out we rarely have issues getting back in the slip; slow like a pro is the motto we employ. Some people have stated that backing into the wind is easier with the large prop pockets that Sea Ray utilizes. What are your thoughts? As well how did you build your confidence in the wind and what were your parameters early on?
I know that some of these questions seem strange on the surface; but remember back when it was all new to you; that is the info that I am looking for; thanks in advance
