Well, after years of boating, and preaching to everyone about making sure their vent lines were free and unobstructed, I pulled a pretty hefty screw up last weekend, right before pullout too...

When we first got our Maxum, I figured it had an inline vent filter, like most Sea Rays/Maxums/meridians... Well, I went into the utility room, sighted the vent line, saw where it ran up and out the side...wow, no vent filter, I even had a new replacement, cool, no need to install..

So we went all summer, and noticed it was getting harder and harder to pump out...must be the pump station... well last Saturday, one final pumpout, only 10lbs vacuum, and sure enough, sucked the top down and cracked it... upon further examination, there WAS a vent filter, hidden by a bulkhead, (shame on me) and apparently at some time, the tank had backed up into it, restricting the air (it weighed about apound or two more than the new filter)... I pulled out the filter, and it had never been changed...it was date stamped, copyright 1996!

Had I done a little more fact finding, I would have found it, replaced with new and saved...get this, $600 for a new tank (50 gallon/Maxum part) not to mention labor to install...

So if you think you may have a filter on your vent line, I would check it and not take a chance, especially if you use your holding tank as much as we do.

Now I'm thinking of removing it (the vent filter) all together, or making a bigger vent line with a bypass to use when we pump out, just to be safe.
