We were out in the ocean Friday afternoon and heard a distress call come over the radio for a swimmer in distress off Tobay beach. We were about 10 mins away so we took a ride over. We saw a lot activity on the beach but only one bay constable real close to shore... So we idled about 75 yards off the beach heading east ( direction of the current ) CG station short beach showed up with one boat that immediately redirected to a boat taking on water in Reynolds channel. The Wantagh FD sent a boat from Wantagh park. Took him over 45 mins to get on scene. NASSAU PD sent a helicopter that did 2 passes and landed in the parking lot. IT was waiting on a Suffolk county helo that never showed up. So the official search party was a bay constable and a Wantagh FD skiff. What a fing joke. After idling to cedar beach and back we left the scene. A lot chatter on Radio but I lost contact near home... These are trained professionals ? You would never know it ... I was shocked when the CG boat was redeployed to something else. SAD !
