Drowning at Croton Point Sat 7/21

I've heard of boaters getting kicked off the beach by the Westchester or Park Police (wouldn't be Croton Police)....that's very interesting. My understanding is that parks are open to all residents and they cannot charge a fee. To get around this, they charge a "parking charge". The village of Croton has a strip of land north of the Croton Yacht Club where the village accepted state funds to improve it. We're told we cannot restrict access to NY State residents, period. I've never been kicked off the beach but I'd challenge it....considering I'm a resident of NY/Westchester/Croton on Hudson.

<<EDIT>>

Here's the link I was referring to. The link is the fees for Westchester parks and says "Croton Point Park-Parking fees apply only. Will be open on weekends and holidays only."

You do not need a Westchester Park Pass to get into Croton, but parking is cheaper if you have one. Also, they charge by the car load (parking fee) not per person. So, I wonder what happens if I ride my bicycle over there. I suspect they will let me in...I must try that some day....but then again, I'll be on the water.

Whats the rule about land below the high water mark being non-private?

I see lots of new regulations coming to make us safe from the idiots. What a shame.

Rommer, I'm not sure about that. When I was looking into a slip at HMB, Steve there showed me a map that said they "owned" the land under all of the slips and most of the mooring field at Senasqua (but let the village use the land for mooring balls).

Personally, I was shocked by that but if they're selling dockominiums with deeds....

Absolutely, you can walk into the park for free. The prohibit the landing of boats, but they can't stop you from walking in from the water.

Now you know why I boat upstate - swim all you want and nobody bothers you...
