Just came from the marina (8:30 p.m. or so) - lots of police and firemen around on C dock. Apparently someone walking down C dock noticed a boat diagonally across two slips with the motor running and no one around. Someone was found under the dock and was pulled out not breathing. Taken to the hospital by ambulance with CPR being done. Stony Point FD divers still in the water investigating and looking for other victims (but all believe there was no one else on board). Very sad.

??? That's very odd, what happened there? Was the guy pulling into or out of the slip and fell in? Or perhaps had a medical issue which led to his falling in the water???

Either way, its a terrible shame...

Wow a bit too close to home.

My condolences to the family.

http://www.lohud.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/200810140655/NEWS03/810140396 STONY POINT - Divers working in the dark retrieved the body of a man who had apparently fallen from his boat at the Stony Point Bay Marina on the Hudson River last night.

The 57-year-old Clarkstown resident, who was not immediately identified, was found dead shortly after 8 p.m., bobbing in the water beneath a dock next to his 29-foot Signature cabin cruiser.

Officers from Stony Point's police and fire departments, along with the Rockland County Sheriff's Marine Unit and the Thiells dive team, reached the marina about 8 p.m. after receiving calls reporting someone struggling in the water. They found the man beneath a wooden dock with his boat's engine still running, police Lt. Peter Quinn said.

Stony Point Fire Chief Adam Feuer said the dark, murky water made it difficult to immediately locate the fallen boater.

"Close your eyes. That's what they could see (in) the Hudson water," he said.

Medics performed cardiopulmonary resusciation, but the man remained unconscious. He was transported by ambulance to Nyack Hospital for treatment.

Police had not determined what caused him to fall into the water or the extent of his injuries.

"There were no signs of foul play or alcohol use," Quinn said. "He appeared to be alone."

Seven or eight rubber-clad divers surfaced around 9:30 p.m., when a secondary search was called off. No one else was found in the water.

The man apparently had been out on his boat and returned to the marina when he fell in, Quinn said. Other boaters heard shouts for help but couldn't see anyone, he said.

When police arrived, they found the man's boat backed into its proper space, but it had not been secured with a rope.

"The divers couldn't see anything," Quinn said. "They were literally feeling along the bottom (of the river). It was like a grid search."

Quinn said it was the first possible drowning he'd seen in the area in years.

"We're still investigating," he said. "It's a terrible situation."

Too sad. Maybe he had an attack while docking.. Condolences to the relatives.

Very Sad,

Don't hold me to this, however this may be the person who purchased Dave's Signature Chaparal boat (located on C dock). He just sold it last month to purchased the 1996 44 Trojan Express.

Our thought's and prayer's go out to his family.

Very sad indeed. Thoughts and prayers to the family.

That's possible, Bob. John was up there last night and said the guy just got the boat about a month ago.

Second accident in 2 days. What a shame. Our thought's and prayer's go out to his family.

From the Journal News:

STONY POINT - Police have identified the man whose body was found near his boat at a marina as a 57-year-old Congers resident.

Vincent Moccia of New York Avenue apparently lost his footing while trying to dock his boat at the Stony Point marina shortly before 8 p.m., Lt. Peter Quinn said.

It was the fellow who purchased Dave's boat. I helped him into the dock on Saturday. He was loving the boating experience, and was spending a lot of time on the water. Due to some illness he was very unsteady on his feet and in fact used a cane to walk the docks. Very friendly guy who got back into boating after loosing his wife less than a year ago. Very sad and it will continue to be a sad moment whenever I pass that slip to get to my boat. The truth be told he was the happiest he has been in a long time getting back on the water. He told this last week to the sales person at SPBC who sold him the boat. Vinnie RIP..... :--(((

This has been a rough year for me as a boater. My jet ski blow up at the beginning of the season and sent to the hospital, Then I sell my boat to a very nice man who dies while docking it. This is really making me stop and think about live. We all should to stop for a moment to appreciate life because there may not by a tomorrow.

My condolences to the family.

Was this man injured as he fell into the water? Maybe they don't know that. It's just really horrible for something like this to happen especially at SPBM. If someone heard him calling for help he was not killed instantly like if he hit his head or something, and often you can just stand up and walk out because of the shallow water there. Sounds like they got to him pretty quickly too. Just tragic. Sad beyond words.

I'm guessing that in the darkness when he fell in he came up under the dock and could not get bearings on how to get out. I'd imagine that scenario would be pretty frightening to anyone.
