We stopped at Hawk Cay / Duck Key a couple of days ago to drop some guests, took a few pictures of the channel along the way, well Naomi took most of them since i was busy with the wind and current, plus the trawler which got it sideways before crossing:)

The channel is narrow but plenty deep up to the canal which heads into the first basin. If you draw over 5' dont' try going past the intersection and to the marina itself.

I remember Duck key as a highlight years ago. The bluest water and never saw a bug. We blew a fuel line and pulled into Hawks Cay for the day. Still have their coozie onboard. If I ever become wealthy, I'll have a canal side home there.
Thx for the pics!

The highlight now is justifying nearly $5.00/foot in the marina....

yeah... not cheap, although you have access to the resort (pool, lagoon, etc...) but still a little steep for a place that needs dredging and decent finger pier/pedestals

I never saw the point in that place myself. Is it worth that much money and hassle to have a pool? You can go around the corner to Marathon Marina for half the price, get nice docks with long cement finger piers, dockside pump out, etc. Plus walking distance to restaurants, a friendly, social group of cruisers eager to help with cars, etc, or just walk to the bus stop to get to the rest of town or call a cab with the money you save. Just my personal opinion.

Of course, I like best the mooring field for 20 bucks a night or 100 a week, including free pump out at your boat, dinghy dock or water taxi, and a sociable, interesting mix of boaters. I fudge a little and round my LOA to 60 ft, the supposed max length allowed. Still a ton of swing room even with the Whaler off the back. No go for Charmer, though.

on mooring W4 at this very moment!
