With my Copiague launch at LaSala and ride to Bay Shore, I am wondering if the markers are in. Thanks.

They were not last weekend but I didn't get out this weekend so that could have changed by now.

Thanks guys. They would appear to be a little late. I can always use my track but I figure that they might adjust the marker position if anything has changed.

They were in two days ago when the boat went out for a test ride, which she failed. So much for new engines!

I went for a ride yesterday, buoys are in but there is a set missing at the north end of the lindy cut.
Not a big deal as this is coming into port by AYC, but there is a shoal there to east, so not sure why they decided not to place these.
Been there every year for the last 13 years.
Buoy placement is very important but I question sometimes is there a science to it or is it "this looks good".
I am sure State channel buoys are done right, but who knows with the town buoys.
Guess boats that go out early, learn quick. I follow my tracks.

The set in front of my canal wasn't in yet Saturday, not sure about further west.

Dave, I think there's a certain amount of 'this looks good'. I've been following the same tracks for years and I'm now outside the buoys in every set past Bergen Point to the bridge.

Yeah, I have noticed that as well. My tracks every year shift, I always wonder if that is because the channel shifts or the buoys shift.
I tend to trust buoys over my tracks but then I question that decision.

For the most part from Lindy cut to bridge is usually all good water and channel is forgiving.

My concern is more at the mouth of Lindy cut where that set is missing as we haven a shoal form in there outside the channel and without the buoys now it is hard to tell where it is.

Thanks to all.

Gene, sorry to hear of your troubles. Good luck getting that squared away.

In the past if the buoys shifted from previous years I would take a slow ride at high tide through the buoys and compare to my tracks and there was always deeper water by my old tracks. Probably not enough to make much difference for most boats but I figure I'll just keep following the old tracks if it gives me a little extra depth.

I never follow the buoys east of SS3. I follow my old path .. I'm always in deeper water then where the buoys are .

I came north through the Amityville cut early Sunday afternoon.
The buoys were in th cut. Although the tide was up, my depthfinder showed only 2' of water under the boat at the north end of the island on the east side around the last two sets of buoys. That's spot is typically shallow, and it appears that it is even worse this year.
I turned East and there were buoys up to Tanner Park, but they were missing east of there at least up to my canal which is where buoys 16 & 17 should be.
I didn't see the next set East (14 & 15) either before making the turn in to my canal.

I avoid the Amityville cut in early season and avoid it at low tide. I prefer the Lindy cut.

I can't remember last time I took Amity Cut.
I agree though, this time of year, its best to stick to traveled channels and let others figure out where the shoals are.
Even going out by surfside and AYC this time of year it is not unusual to see 3' at low tide.

Remember, I have 2 grappling hooks under my boat!

It would be nice if the multiple layers of government could steal just a little bit less money and spend some of it on dredging some of these channels and cuts.
I guess they haven't figured out a way to get kickbacks from dredging companies yet.
