Easy Access Newport Marina??

I'm goiing to be bringing my new to me 2003 37' Egg Harbor south from Yarmouth Maine to Belmar NJ at the end of this month.

Plan is to follow the coast south, go through the Cape Cod Canal spend a night in Newport and then continue south to the NJ coast the next day. I'll be travelling with a hired captain and a friend of mine.

I'd like to tap into some local knowledge as to what would be a good marina in teh Newport RI area to overnight at - where we could have easy access, hook up to water, 50amp service and have dining facilities close by?

A good option is the Newport Harbor Hotel and Marina. It is a nice marina with and you have use of the hotel pool and showers. It is on the north end of Newport Harbor. Another option on the south end is West Wind Marina. It is a little smaller, but very nice. Both are close to many restaurants.
 
Sandy, no fuel at Newport Harbor Hotel and Marina (close by though) but I second it as a decent place to overnight.

Congrats on picking up the new boat. Should be a great trip. Enjoy!
 
Another option is the Newport Yachting center.
 
Give a toot as you go by Sandwich Marina, east end Cape Cod Canal. Will probably be bottom painting. Splashdown May 12th.
 
NYC is the most recognizeable marina as you come into the harbor. You'll see the fuel tanks up and docks up front, can't miss it.
 
A friend and business associate keeps his 43 Egg Harbor at the Goat Island Marina - perhaps the most water accessible marina in Newport for dockage. It has a fuel dock and a great restaurant, The Goat Island Grille, with inside and waterside tables. They offer a free shuttle to downtown as well . . . great since no designated driver is needed.

During Spring, I would suspect plenty of slips will be available, but call ahead to confirm reservations.

Newport is well north of your rumb line course - probably 8-9 miles. You might consider passing Newport and heading into Point Judith. It would be much easier in and out. I can't give you a specific recommendation of a marina - my cruising guide is at home. There are a couple of marinas on the West side of the harbor.
 
Just an FYI, Point Judith is more of a commerical harbor with not a lot of stuff for recreational boaters. A boat that big probably won't make it up into the salt pond to the marina up there.

Something else to consider if comming into Newport is to try Jamestown. Just the other side of East Passage and a bit cheaper. Connancicut Marina has great facilities and all restaurants in Jamestown are a 2 minute walk away. It has good shelter from west and southwest winds but will be rolley if wind in out of north or east.
 
Sandy, I've got the first leg of your trip planned for May 3, 4 or 5th (weather dependent)...Portland, ME to Narragansett Bay...also with a hired captain. I'm new to RI boating so I can't offer a marina recommendation. Perhaps the captains know each other; I'm using Keith Fosler of North East Maritime Services. Can't wait to get down to a warmer climate...just last weekend I was shoving 8" of snow off of the boat. Safe travels to NJ.
 
Point Judith would be fine and you won't have to go very far up into the Salt Pond to find a place to tie up. PJ isn't Newport by any means but it is right on your track, has fuel and is easy to get into.

That said, "Prospective's" suggestion about Jamestown is also a good one. Jamestown is a boater town and lots of fun to visit. Connanicut is great but call first, just to make sure.

By the way, good luck with your new boat. Very nice choice.
