Easy fishing spot for the kids? Lindenhurst area

Hi, I'd like to try fishing around Lindenhurst. My kids are 4 and 5, so we're not out for trophy stripers, just snappers, sea robins, and an eel or two. Can I just pull someplace shallow (not too shallow - 3' draft) and drop some llines?
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Keith, I am not the most experienced fisherman, but I can tell you that anywhere along the state channel south of Lindenhurst cut east or west, you can catch all kinds of fish and maybe even a keeper stripper or the fun snapper. I see many a fishing boat drifting along the north side of the channel along the marshlands.

Two things to consider, #1 maybe choose the 5mph areas. If not, you may get boaters that just came out of the 5ph zone and will fly past you and shake you and your children up a bit. #2 please don’t anchor in the middle of the channel…. But I know you know that. ;)
 
I agree with staying in the 5 mph zones, especially on weekends. If you just want to fish for snappers, try Garbage Cove.......I usually catch quite a few over there just hanging on the hook.
 
I find the best fish at SouthSide in Lindenhurst.
Easy to catch, no extra prep work, good eating too!

Sorry, I don't fish much!
 
Dave......... Thats the same fishing hole we use also.....although it is bit crowded on Friday night............ the beer is ICE cold !!!
 
Nice work Brad I thought John and myself were the only ones who fished on this board. Keith you can try the copiague hole its North of the east/west channel near tanner park
 
They are building one in Smithtown, so when that opens, I won't be visiting yours as much.
Not sure why the one in Smithtown has not opened yet.

yum....mussels marinara and beer!

Did not catch the SP…. Ummm… a keeper stripper or a Brazilian snapper, I hear they migrate up these ways this time of year…..
