Educational video for boat buyers

There is a reason why seamen are well known for their ability to cuss.

I recommend having a survey done on a new boat ( and this video shows why ), but all of this demonstrates sloppy craftsmanship and failure at several levels to QC the work.

IMHO.

What a gentleman on his review,
My take was Azimut (not a cheap boat) and Marine Max SUCK!!!!!!

WHAT a POS Boat!!!!

OMG, this is a must view video. How is Azimut still in business??? Also, Marine Max, shame on you!!!!!!!!!!!

Continuous theme in this video is Marinemax Huntington NY are useless and never solved one problem.

Big salute to that owner for his understated, rather amazingly gracious demeanor delivering that astounding report.

I really kept expecting him to mention almost in passing, ... " Also, ...the front fell off."
( :reference of course to the Clarke and Dawe routine, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3m5qxZm_JqM )

Arnold- Thanks for posting the link. Definitely worth watching the thing.

Is this the general state of the boat building and it's service industry these days or an isolated incident. Lack of quality control for high end manufactures is usually indicative of financial instability or taking on to much work without wanting to hire or rehire enough qualified technical employees (something that has been common not only in boating but throughout the whole economy since the 2007-8 crash.) Azimut's poor workmanship became Marine Max's burden and the lack of qualified technical help (as is mentioned in the video) at MM might be a reflection of that trend. Regardless of its causes though you can certainly feel this gentleman's frustration. I believe the boat had a 2 year warranty and this video was at that end of that...I hope he has a better luck for the next 24 months. I suspect that there may be or was some attempt at legal recourse as he had mentioned that Azimut is built in Italy and it would be in their jurisdiction or something to that effect.

This was discussed at length on a Sea Ray site. One of the RO's lives in Italy and Azi owners admit to the company's style over substance attitude. He goes on to say Azi owners tell him he was wise to rehab an older 40 SR. It was a better quality boat.

As for Marine Max, a SR. master wrench says the margin on a 48' Azi is far greater than on a similar SR. Where are you going to steer the buyer?

Both situations suck and I'll bet this video does go viral in the boating community and does a great deal to put dealers, builders and mechs on notice.

In my experience with several new boats, this is the rule rather than the exception. You've got to wonder how these yo yo's stay in business...but as soon as I typed that I realized that it is our fault for putting up with it.

Sage wisdom Doc!

The owner took a very wise approach.

Payback is a mamaforker !

Safe to say, THAT boat will never be right.

Remember in the old days when people stood outside a business with signs to mock them. Nowadays it's social media that all you need. One person can drive a single crusade against any business with 1 video, 1 tweet, 1 facebook post, etc.

I actually think it's awesome. Kudo's to this guy for taking the time to do this. Not many people would do this.

A kid where I work said his dad just purchased a brand new motorhome and they are joking that it had to have been built on a Monday or Friday due to the number of items that needed repair right out of the factory.
