I'm having some trouble getting my engine aligned. 350 mag, going to a Bravo III drive. I dropped the engine in, and bolted the read mounts, with the fiber washers between the mount & the flywheel bellhousings. My front mounts are new, and seem to be a bit taller than the old ones. I can see the coupler; and by the naked eye it looks aligned to the gimbal ring - at least aligned enough to get the bar in, but when I put the alignemnt bar in, it hits the coupler, and doesn't go into the spline shaft at all. I tried it with the front of the engine lifted all the way up, and various levels as I drop the engine down. I have the mounts set so that the engine will sit at it's lowest possible point. I still can't get the bar in.
Any tricks of the trade that may help me here? I try to reach to the front of the coupler, and feel where I'm hitting - if I had to guess, I'd say the bar is hitting to high on the coupler, or the engine is sitting a litte low. Is there ever a time when the rear engine mounts have to be messed with?
