engine bogs down when throttle is set to wide open

Hi...Engine specs: Mercruiser V8 5.7litre 260 hp I/O.

Question for you all. When I throw the throttle all the way...the engine bogs down for a second or two and then kicks in. Any idea what might be causing this?
