Out Saturday and Port Engine (8.1 Volvo OSI XDP)
was cutting out, missing, and backfiring. Felt a lot like it might be water in the fuel but starboard engine operating fine. Haven't switched out fuel filters this season. Any ideas? Have asked dealer to put a scope on it.

hummmmm you suspect the filter but decide to first pay the shop to scope it. why not pull the filter?

Dawntreader with same boat and engine(s) had a problem on our trip with one engine cutting out.

It would refire and then cut out again.

Turned out to be a loose connection / wire in the main wiring harness behind the dashboard.

Sorry not mechancial per se so that's the best I can offer.

A very similar problem on my 3560 8.1L Gi turned out to be a loose connection where the battery cable connected to the starter. The cable is routed through a rubber boot that made it seem tight but in fact it was loose enough to cause the engine to cut out, apparently when temperature was just right.

Problem doesn't always have to be the Hot wire. Could also be one of the many ground attachments is loose. Always check both.
