I have a 1985 3607 with twin Crusader 454ci engines.
I was looking at converting the original Mallory points distributor to electronic with a mallory kit.
When looking for kits online I found Mallory offers them for both left and right rotation applications.
I hate to admitt it but I don't know if my engines have one left and one right rotation or if my transmissions reverse the direction on one of them.
I do remember reading in my boat manuals on the transmissions that a reverse rotation model was available but I never checked to see what I had.
I'm some distance from the boat so I thought I would ask any 3607 owners out there if they knew their engine rotation and if one were right hand rotation which side of the boat would it be on, port or starboard?
 
OK, I know the standard rotation would be the port engine but still don't know if the starboard right rotation is through the engine or transmissions.
I think there was a year cut off where they went to using the transmissions to accomplish reverse rotation but don't know what year.
Maybe I'll ask that question on the enjines forum.
 
My 1987 Voyager originally had counter rotating engines. Port engine was standard and starboard engine was counter-rotating.

My 84 3207 was the same as Bob's. I did same update and made a world of difference. Port side standard starboard side counter.
 
Look on the plate attached to yout transmissions.. If i remember correctly mine ('82 vintage) states LH for Port and RH for Starbd.
 
Check the intake manifolds for firing order. Standard rotation order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. I don' t remember reverse order but if that's what it says also check plug wires to insure that its right.
 
The engine label is CX?....? = L or R for rotation. Firing order is different.
 
look at the engines when running if they both turn the same way you will have a positive answer.
 
When you install these do you have to redo the timing? Basically how difficult or easy are these to install? When I purchased my 3207 a few years ago one has electronic ignition the other the original set up. (So I was told)

The installation is pretty straight forward, get the appropriated kit for your engine aplication (marine grade) and it will have instruction with it.
If you don't move/loosen the distributor and do the conversion in place, than no need to mess with the timeing.
I do recomend you get the recomended ballast resistor with the kit to protect the electronic moduel.

I have recently discovered that Crusader installs a small plate on the bell housing that states clearly whether the engine is right or left rotation. Left rotation is standard (I think).
