I want to reduce the ER noise in the main salon while replacing carpet. There are several sound insulating products available but except for the lead sheet stuff they all have layers of foam and a layer of heavy vinyl of some sort, some have a Mylar layer as well. If I understand correctly, the various densities each absorb certain frequencies thus the sandwich construction. That got me to wondering if 40 mil shower pan liner that is much cheaper wouldn't work almost as well over or under the already installed foam carpet pad.
