Anyone keep their boat in a marina near Essex? Pros and cons of that area.

considering the forum I presume he means the one near Baltimore.

I have done business witht he folks at Cutter Marina for some Honda products, and they are always inviting us to come up for a stay. We haven't yet, however they are good folks. I don't know if that is too far up in the creek for you, but the marina looks well cared for.

We slip at Cutter Marina now and previously West Shore Yacht Center. Cutter is a nice spot. Quite calm location, even when the wind is blowing. Little to no current to worry about when docking. On weekends, the no wake zones extend for quite some way and it takes about 20 minutes to get through that, but I find that is time well spent stowing things and preparing to get underway at plane. The Middle River is a good base to reach popular destinations, such as Fairlee Creek, Rock Hall, Kent Narrows, Annapolis, Baltimore, Sassafras River, etc. (I guess I could go on and on). If you didn't want to go far, go on the hook at Sue Creek or Frog Mortor Creek, etc., and of course, Harte Miller Island. I think they are a bit pricey, but after experiencing the rock 'n' rolling at West Shore, the money's worth it to me. If you slip over on E dock with the finger piers, you'll save a bit over A or B dock. They have some floating docks, but I understand they are all filled and there's a waiting list.

As for the land-based area, plenty of places nearby -- 3 West Marine stores within an easy drive; a couple of nice restaurants, 7-Eleven for last minute stuff, Mars grocery store, etc.

Randy: Whats' the depth like up to Cutter, and is there decent depth at the marina. We draft 4 now, and are going to 5 in the fall, so if we are visiting there, we better do it soon, depending on the water?

Dusty,

Quite frankly, I haven't paid too much attention to the depth as I only draw 3' and never have had a problem. If my memory serves me, though, I think the average depth is around 6' (maybe a little less further in) and a little more at the T.

Dusty,

They dredged up the creek outside of Cutter this year and Gary, the owner, had them dredge the fairways and slips while they were there. I think Randy is right that they claim 6' MLW. That seems right because I'm in Cutter also and I see about 4 feet under my hull on my depth finder at low tide.

We've got some deep draft trawlers and they don't have any problems. At low tide, they'll kick up some silt, but they aren't touching. We have a 49 DeFever right behind us. You should be fine all the way up to and in Cutter.
