Hi All I posted this question in another forum but thought I would ask here as well. I am about have the below work done but want to be sure the prices I am getting are fair. I bought the boat in august and did have it surveyed it is a beautiful 2001 2655 with 5.7 Mercruiser and Bravo III out drive. While the surveyor told me I should get another 2 years out of the manifolds I figured I would have them changed for peace of mind. Labor rate is $85 per hour and the dealer said this is a worse case scenario in pricing and may be less when work is done but would not be more.
Manifolds changed OEM P&L labor is 4.5 hr $1,250
New bellows installed OEM 17 P&L $261
Impeller changed OEM P&L $270
chartplotter/fishfinder flush mount install Labor 4 hr $340
I bought the boat this past August their was a noise that I heard at sea trial that I was told was a gimbal bearing so they are going to fix that for me no charge I figured while they do this I would have them do the u-joints as I was told by others that it would be a good time to do this. So I asked them to do this as well. On the estimate the put a parts charge of $417 for the whole u-joint assembly and 3hrs labor. I then meet with them and told them I just wanted the u-joints (bearings) changed I know parts for this are about $100. and he told me the labor would be about 2hrs we left it with we would meet and we would talk more about the u-joints after the drive was pulled and he had a chance to look at them with me he also told me he would not start any work until I signed the estimate we both felt was fair. I really want to have a good relationship with this dealer they where very god to me in the whole purchase process and have been making good on all things they have agreed to fix ( a few items they will be addressing over the winter) after hearing many horror stories I Just want to be sure pricing seems fair and don't want to be taken.
