We took 2 other families (total of 11 ppl) to Liberty Landing Marina to see the Statue of Liberty.

Seas were 1-2 both ways and the wind was just right for a comfortable trip in both directions.

Briefly saw the whales on the way out just east of Debs Inlet and then on the way back we saw a whole pod of them munching on a school of fish. It was so calm we could tell where they were before they surfaced by the change in the water...except for the big bugger that surfaced and sprayed about 25 feet off my bow...that was worth the price of the whole trip for fun and excitement.

The one down side of the whole trip was the transient slip fee for approx 5 hours ($4.50/ft) and the less than great price for fuel ($4.29). I knew about the slip fee but it still stung but the gas was way higher than I expected.

Anybody else get to the whales up close and personal?

Jeff

That was a nice trip. You must have gone a little later because we were getting rocked pretty good in the morning drift fishing the AB reef.

We didn't see the whales but I can tell why they are around. There was a massive school of bunker moving around.

I have not been that lucky but friends/dockmates got to see them a couple of weeks ago right before labor day on their was back from Belmar NJ. Must be exciting to see!

That's great! I may try to take a ride out there this coming week to see if I can find them.
I fueled up at Liberty Landing when I took a cruise in to the city last month. While I was there I was talking to a guy from another marina filling up a customer's boat. He told me that if you have the time and were heading that way that Alpine was the place to go for fuel. It's north of the GW bridge. He told me it is a state run marina and the fuel was cheaper.
I'm going to give it a shot next time.

Just inside sandy hook it's $3.51.

At Schupps Landing, it's $3.41 if you get over 100 gallons

I'll have to head in there and do a little exploring the next time I make the trip.
