I want to install a exhaust fan in a head - shower compo on a 89 luhrs 40 Need some ideas what kind 12volt or 115v, make, and where to connect the fan to..The only openning i see its on the ceiling and its a 10x10 hatch... thanx in advance

Could you put one of those solar fans into the hatch? I'm not familiar with your boat so otherwise, I'm no help.

Nicro makes a nice solar powered unit. Easy to install and no electric to run. I'm sure you can get it from Boatfix.com

This is Nicro's smallest diameter solar exhaust vent. It has a 100% waterproof shut-off damper operated from below. Vent attaches directly to the deck without a Nicro deckplate.

Solar powered exhaust ventilation during daylight - passive exhaust at night
No batteries or wiring required
Whisper-quiet fan operation
Durable white ABS construction
Shut-off damper to prevent water intrusion in rough seas
2-year limited warranty and 5-year qualified warranty
Mounting hardware included
Optional Stainless steel cover available
Dimensions: 7 inch diameter x 1-3/4 inches high

Does this solar vent fit on top of my hatch? Do i have to cut a 7 inch diameter hole in the plastic of the hatch? Thanx

Thanx went to marine store and looked at the nicro SS Looks like will do the job, just have to figure away to cut a hole in the hatch and see what to do with the hatch lock system wich it goes accross the plastic underneath

I have one of those installed on my dogs house. Keeps him cooler at night
way down here. Works well.

My 302CR Monterey uses a bilge vent fan as the head exhaust fan. The exhaust fan sends the head air to the engine compartment where there is plenty of ventalation.

I'd go with the Nicro. I don't like sending moisture into the engine room if it can be avoided.

Install a 12 volt it's a no brainer. You always have 12 volt you may not have 120 volt fulltime and the highly touted Nicro only works during the day.

Or, you could open the hatch during critical head operations. :=)

Minimum effort and lowest cost.

Will your engine run on methane gas? ;)

It doesn't have to be installed in a hatch. Mine is in the foredeck over the berth.

"It doesn't have to be installed in a hatch. Mine is in the foredeck over the berth." You had to cut a hole in the deck or was factory installed?

I'm guessing the previous owner installed it. Or had it installed.

The hardest hole to cut in your boat is the first one. Each one after that gets easier and easier! ;)

I just put the 4" Nicro solar vent in yesterday. Takes a 4 3/4" hole. saw speed varies if you are cutting thru a hatch. Tape either the saw plate, or the hatch top to avoid scratches. Everything you need is included except the bedding compound. Was not a hard install. Fan is almost noiseless, comes with in & outflow blades & bug screen. Enjoy

The Nicro has a battery that is recharged by solar power. It works day and night.
