Anyone,
I own a 2004 Sea Ray 450EB. Last week while off the coast of Key West. My starboard shaft sheared off, then slid out to the rutter. In 30 seconds the water in the engine room was shin deep. After alerting the Coast Guard to be on the ready, I was able to cram a water bottle wrapped in a wash cloth in the shaft through hole to allow the bilge to keep up. It was determined when the boat was pulled that the stringers had failed, which caused the motor mounts to wobble thus leading to the shaft wobbling, you get the picture. Originally the mechanic said the stringers needed to be replaced, and the boat should be pulled and returned to the factory. Sea Ray sent a couple of technicians to the boat and have convinced this individual that he can do the stringer repair while the boat sits on the stands. Keep in mind he must actually pull the engine and reglass the stringers. Has anyone ever heard of doing a critical stringer repair out of the factory. The Marinemax service manager says there is no way it can be done. But because it is a warrantied item he is being over ruled.
