BERKELEY - State Police have resumed searching Barnegat Bay for a Lacey man who fell out of a speedboat Saturday night in the Tices Shoal section of the bay, near Berkeley Island State Park.

State police marine services and aviation units resumed their search for 25-year-old Nicholas Holmes, of the Lanoka Harbor section of Lacey, at 7:45 a.m. today, more than 37 hours after he and another man were tossed from a 23-foot Scarab boat after being rocked by the wake left by another Scarab around 6 p.m. on Saturday, according State Police spokesman Sgt. Brian Polite.

The other passenger was immediately rescued, Polite added.

U.S. Coast Guard search-and-rescue crews suspended their search around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, according to Petty Officer Michael Lutz, Coast Guard spokesman.

A Coast Guard helicopter from the Atlantic City station and a 24-foot Coast Guard rescue boat from the Barnegat Light station spent Sunday afternoon searching the bay for the missing man, Lutz said.

Officers from the Ocean County Sheriff's Department and Island Beach State Park rangers were searching the shoreline on Sunday, Lutz said.

The circumstances surround the incident continue to be under investigation.
