I'm looking for 2ea, 12 inch dia, fender holders that mount to the top rail. I've searched the web but all I can find are the type that mount to the vertical supports of the railing. My rail supports are at an angle and I want the fender holders to remain totally vertical, not sloped. I want one that will hold 2 fenders in each holder, and I'd prefer one with a band instead of the single wire to hold the fender.

Any idears where to find them, I've searched all the major vendors.

Thanks

How long are the lines on your fenders? 12" diameter, so roughly (guesstimation math) 40" circumference. Are you set on holders? Could tie them off securely and smartly if the whips on them are at least 5' or so.

I think you are looking for something like these. I just posted them online tonight. Took them off of our boat this weekend. The admiral didn't like them. Mine are only 9.5" diameter. The top mounts to the horizontal rail, the bottom to the vertical rail you can set them about any way you want. http://cincinnati.craigslist.org/boa/1915740522.html Good luck in your search.

I may be wrong and won't be able to tell you with any certainty until I go to the boat this coming weekend, BUT... I'm relatively sure you can attach those "wire" holders vertically. I mounted mine on the angled support rail, but I'm almost certain you can attach the top bracket to your horizontal rail. You'll still need to attach the bottom to something, therefore your sloped support rail will still be necessary.

Again, I'll need to go look, but don't write off anything you find; it may work for you.

Vollfas- Is it common in KY to mount the fender holders on the outside of the rail??

Not really, but on this boat it was the only place they were able to be mounted. When we first went to look at the boat I asked them why they had them on the outside and they said that they wouldn't fit on the inside. After looking at it closer I realized they were right. Its only a 21 foot boat so there is not a lot of space up front.

they should be adjustable so they can be mounted vertically on an angled stanchion.

as to mounting them outside the railing, i can't imagine doing this! maybe they only have floating docks over there so they wont' catch on pilings... otherwise, it's as dumb as it gets.

But if they were mounted on the inside of the railing, they would pretty much block safe access to the bow and anchor.

There's no really good place for this type of fender holder as it blocks the line of sight for the operator regardless of if it's mounted on the inside or outside.

In this case, they are also a little larger than necessary for a 21' boat.

i agree... that's why on a small boat fender racks rarely work. best storage is in the cockpit or under the Vee berth and you pop them out the hatch...

Thats why I'm selling ours, they look too big for the boat. We keep our fenders in the bathroom. Most of the docks on the Ohio River are floating with the pilings in the middle of the docks away from the boat.

Here is my solution for my previous boat:

The rack sits on top of the water tank. It's held in place with velcro.

These holders are attached to the rails with U-Clamps. You can attach the bottom one to the vertical (sloped) support rail and the top clamp to the horizontal rail, giving you endless angle possibilities. You don't have to attach both the top and bottom clamps to the vertical support rail. I just looked at mine and am considering remounting my holders so they angle back toward the helm; they're currently angled toward the bow.

On our boat, we have the fender mounts mounted on the outside of the bow rail, but the gunwale is wide enough and the rub rail is far enough outboard that they never get caught on our pilings. Yes, we do keep the boat in a covered slip with pilings! Windy conditions mean I use the piling as a pivot (depending on the severity and direction), and have never had a problem.

Sorry, this post didnt help the original poster, just making an observation off of some other RO's comments.
