Went down today to take the boat to my dealer to have it winterized. I dropped my car off at the dealer and my wife drove me to the Anchorage. I got out of our truck and told my wife to wait a few to make sure the motor started. Well I stepped onto the swimplatform and didn't see the ice and into the water I went. I was up to my chest with my elbows holding me up between the platform and the dock. I was in the water up to my neck. A few scrapes on the legs and a black berrry that doesn't work anymore and no pride left as I dragged my wet but back into the truck for the ride home to change.

Been there, done that- it happens to more of us that will admit too!
Glad your ok-

A couple of years ago I stayed on the boat overnight in December. The next morning I got up and tried to leave the boat early. I stepped onto the finger pier, which had frosted overnight and did a split. Part of me was over almost into the water and some of me was straddling the finger pier trying to regain my balance so I didn't go head first into the basin. My balance lost, I went into the water, cursing and sputtering, soaking wet. I got back onto the boat with my tail between my legs, all cut up from the dock and barnacles, looking like who did it and ran.

Needless to say I feel your pain.

Glad you weren't injured (save pride and those scrapes), although you'll probably ache in the morning...
A really nasty fall overboard is to wind up between a rocking boat and a dock, glad that didn't happen either.

Lots of accidents this morning.
Boat was slippery but I could see the ice on the teak.
Was in the Anchorage at 9:30, worked all day on boat.
Oil change, winterized, cleaned.
All ready for wash and wrap!

Happened to me couple of years ago, bright sunny day. Just washed the boat swim plaatform was set and in I went. Dock was full of people, as i climned back up I said "i knew those props had worms!"
lol

Take the battery out of the BB, put it in the pocket of your jeans, tie jeans in a ball and put in the dryer.
Bet it will work just fine.

Take the battery out of the BB and put the BB and the battery in a bowl of rice. Make sure they are completely submerged. Leave them there for at least 24 hours. Good chance it will work when you take it out and put it back together.
I've seen several things on the internet cautioning against using a blow dryer or any other heat source to dry the phone out. The thought is that you can fry the curcuitry or something. I'm not an electronics expert. But I can tell you that the rice thing worked on my iPhone last spring.

There are two kinds of boat owners. Those that have fallen into the water and those that will fall into the water.

Yeah.......I learned the hard way.....DON'T wax the nonskid.....and DON'T jump onto the deck from the dock after you waxed the nonskid....

I was just outside on mine, everything is frosted over, had to be really careful. There's a freeze warning in effect for tonight, I haven't winterized the fresh water system yet but wanted to open the faucets at least and let the water drain out as much as possible from the lines (one faucet is down low by the engines so seems to drain through there). The water in the tank close to the hull bottom should be fine and the block heaters keep everything in the engine compartment warm. Drained the dock water too. Supposed to be around 60 next weekend, so should be warming up. I still have almost a month in the water.

John,
Im usually in until thanxgiving. The water temp being so warm prevents the interior of the boat from getting to freezing. It get cold but in 10 years I haven't busted a thing yet.

2 years ago, I was changing the prop in my I/O while it was in the water in my canal. I was sitting in my kayak. I was trying to get some leverage to loosen the nut, and I rolled the kayak. I was freaking out, trying to not drown (as I'm not the best swimmer) and then i realized that I could just stand up, and the water was to my waist. I went in the house, soaking wet, and my, at that time wife, now ex-wife, couldn't figure out why i was soaking wet! Lost a few good hand tools to the canal that day.

A few months ago, i'm swapping out the dock cleats on my bulkhead, and my brand new ratchet goes flying into the canal. I've lost way too many tools down there!

Last spring, I had bolted a set of wooden steps/ladder onto the bulkhead so we could climb down onto the swim platform when the tide was low. Two weeks ago I had to remove them just before the boat was hauled. I was laying on the swim platform, which is only about 18" deep. to unscrew the lag bolts. I had tied a line to the ladder in case it fell after I unscrewed it. I planned ahead by taking everything out of my pockets and removing my glasses. Picyure this: I'm stretched out on the platform, holding the boat tight to the bulkhead with one hand as I worked the rachet and double extension with the other. To make a long story short, I didn't fall in, though I got my arms wet and scraped my side a little, but I did have to buy two new extensions and a 9/16" socket to replace the ones which now lie on the bottom of the canal. The ladder floated, of course, and I was able to pull in ashore with the attached line. Lesson learned. Next time I'll just leave the ladder for the next person who rents the slip. (We're moving to a different marina next season). Hy

Took a good spill on my deck after a swim in June, still hurting...growing old sucks....
