There is a small chain of islands that sit right on the border of Maine and New Hampshire, roughly 6-7 miles off shore. They are called the Isles of Shoals and are split between the two states. There is a ton of history out there, and some really cool stories.

So, for the past few years, I have been wanting to get out there on my boat, but between sea conditions and the ongoing saga of my grumpy engine, it hasn't happened. The admiral and I tried a few times over the years, but conditions just never cooperated for us to make it all the way there without turning back for safety's sake.
Well, Saturday afternoon, we finally made it! The winds and seas were not too bad, it was choppy but only about maybe 2-3 feet with long enough intervals that we were able to safely make the run out and back. We pulled into Gosport Harbor, picked up an unoccupied mooring ball, and hung out for lunch.
During the season, they have a shuttle boat that can be hailed to come pick you up and take you ashore to explore, we'll have to try to get there earlier in the season next year and do that...

It was fun to check it out, and the run out and back were done safely even in my 18 footer. Ironically, for those who have been here for a while, it is indeed a self bailing bowrider... Actually an Edgewater dual console with a deep V that is able to shoulder through the waves safely without taking water over the bow. A little bit of splashing when the wind and waves timed out just right, but nothing sketchy.
