I'm baaack!

Yes, it's been a looooong time (15088 new 'topics' on this forum later!). Thankfully, there are friends like Flutterby out there, keeping an eye out for us 'lost souls'! (~; Not to worry! Everything is good on this end - just got side-tracked, so to speak. Now I only have access to this site from home, but rest assured - I've got it book-marked and have full intentions of actively participating once again.

Anyway, good to see so many familiar names when I took a quick browse through the forum a few minutes ago.

Cheers!

Holger,

It's good to see you again. I got your email, but my situation has changed drastically and I've been so busy that I haven't had time to reply (you are in BOLD RED at the top of my to do list). It's good to see you back on BoaterEd; we'll look forward to your posts.

Thanks guys! I admit that I have missed this forum, especially the 'local' Bay Area/Delta portion. It's nice to be able to actually meet some of the forum members in person.

As to last year's boating, we got off to a rousing start, spending a total of just over 3 weeks on the water the first half of the year. After the 4th of July weekend the water level in Folsom Lake dropped so radically that we had to switch over to the Delta. Got a couple more days in, including one right after Christmas on the Bay looking for sturgeon. Didn't catch any, but withcalm seas and bright sunny skies, no one was complaining.

Dave, I finally did pick up a couple of collapsible crab pots and fished them out of Albion on opening day last fall. Didn't do all that well in the shallows (the deeper water was really torn up and rough right after Thanksgiving), but my buddy's traps yielded way over his limit, so, like you, he was gratious enough to share the bounty. Yet, even though the crabs were legal keepers, they were nothing like some of the giants we had pulled out of your traps that one time.

Speaking of Half Moon Bay - we went down there to watch the Maverick's surf contest from shore. But given the location of the break they ride (about a half mile off shore), we really didn't see much surfing action. I did notice quite a flotilla of boats out watching the action from just a few hundred yards to the side of the point (outside the break zone). Has anyone on this forum ever done that and know of any restrictions, etc. governing doing so during said contest? Not sure if I'd ever take our boat out there, but on this particular day there were several boats quite a bit smaller than ours seemingly doing just fine.

Cheers!
