Fireworks Tonight

John. Take your boat out to watch them.. There were two barges on the east river that shot of the best. We had a good long show on this side. It was on the shore in between the park peninsula and statue. We were backed into the dock along the shore and we decided (fortunately) to walk out to the park to watch them.
Kinda pricey for the view IMHO.

The Bowline fireworks were some of the best I have ever seen. That said, the volume of talentless, ignorant and dangerous boaters amazed me. No less than 6 vessels with no nav lights( I almost hit one) and two vessels who's captains asked me to move while I was at anchor. Baffling! I firmly believe there should be a boating licensing exam equal in difficulty to the admissions test to Harvard. Hell, if you want to drive a jetski, it's 8 hours of training! If you want to drive a 50 foot Hattaras all you need is a bank account
Baffling!!!

What I don't get is...considering all the police, fire USCGAux, etc why don't these boats get ticketed and told to go back to the slip? I did see a small sailboat with no lights and a dark hull. I used my spot to illuminate him for a few minutes in the name of "safety".

I was over in Ossining and after the fireworks, there was a call of a "boat in distress". We sat anchored for a good half hour waiting for the after-show to be over (chaos). Anyway, the caller never responded and the next thing you know, a helicopter is comming our way with a big search light. They never did find anyone but I guess they have to keep up the search.

We watched the bowline fireworks from an anchored position over at Croton. On our way back at about 8knots we saw the helicopter Chris referred to. We had no idea what the issue is but I have to admit I was not happy at all when they illuminated our boat for a good 30 seconds with a searchlight brighter then a supernova. Needless to say all night vision was gone and we stopped in our tracks for a few minutes.

I know they have an important job to do but this was a bit over the top IMHO.

Well we spent alot of time in Bowline since Tuesday night. Thought they did a good job with the fireworks. Spent a couple of nights on the hook as well. The weather wasnt as bad as they said it could have been. Did get chased in a few times due to storm threats but still managed to have a good time.....

So who was it from boatered that was in bowline and stopped by the boat. I missed whoever it was but my son said someone stopped by. Sorry we missed you...Next time we will have to have a beer or 2.....

Al, it was great seeing you guys and as always it was a Pleasue. Stop by any time....

Butch, Its was great spending time with the Penny Bridge group as always. Isabelle and i look forward to seeing you all again. Also thank you for sharing information about your windless and the right way to anchor in Bow Line.

Butch:
It was me and a friend of mine that stopped by to say hi. I am out of Willow Cove North or whatever we are called now that we are "one big happy family" with Stony Point Bay. I have a 2002 Regal 3860.
I was also anchored in bowline on Saturday and Sunday. I was the one that the "go fast goat rodeo" anchored over my anchor.....

I will stop by again sometime when I see you.

Dave

Hey guys... Fireworks this Saturday the 14th at Athens. Its the Athens Street Festival. Always a good time and plenty of room to anchor.

Dave,
Sorry we missed you...Hope our gang didnt keep you up...We can get noisy at times..I was really surprised with the large amount of boats we ended up with on Sunday. Quess they where all chased out of croton. We spend alot of time in bowline so stop by if you see us.

Butch:
Your gang did not keep us up.I am glad you guys were having a good time. I will definately stop by if I see you. That was the most boats I have seen in Bowline in a long time.

Dave

Off the Poughkeepsie waterfront there will be fireworks tonight sponsored by the Poughkeepsie Chamber of Commerce. They always put on a good show, starts at 9.

There was a great fireworks display last night at about 10:45 PM, looked like it was in Verplanck, same area where they shot them off on Friday night.

There were also fireworks from Ossining (St Augustine Festival) Sunday at 9:30pm.

Peekskill celebration is August 04th.

Yeah, we watched the Ossining ones from our marina. Three displays in one weekend - not too bad!

Uhhh Hummmm, Does that mean you stayed over last night Mike, Perhaps no work today?

Yes, we stayed over, but I did go to work, took the ferry to Ossining, then into GCT.

Monday mornings suck!

This poses a dilemma...

"...considering all the police, fire USCGAux, etc why don't these boats get ticketed and told to go back to the slip?"

As AUX, we're not law enforcement. The LEOs for whatever reason often ignore things that grate on us and probably many of you. So if LEO can enforce or warn but doesn't, do I? If we're in company or LEO passed by first, usually I don't stop to warn/explain. If I'm there alone or first, I usually do. It's a One-Boat-At-A-Time deal, but I try to be friendly and positive in the hope behavior will change and the boater won't put up a "Hassled by the Auxiliary" thread someplace.

Reminder to all: Peekskill Fireworks this weekend. Is it August 4th or August 5th. I've seen both on ads.. One of them must be a typo which one??

Peekskill fireworks are Sat night 8/4. Music simulcast on 100.7FM.

Always an excellent show!
