So we are flying out tomorrow to burn some fuel. Friend just purchased a 340 Sea Ray and before it's shipped to Minnesota we have to get rid of some fuel. (Bummer!).

We are bringing the wives for a few days for some boating.

Plan on heading to Smithfield Station for at least one night....any other recomendations for good destinations? It's our first time in the area.

To far south for me to offer any help with. Sorry. You should have fabulous weather though!

Smithfield Station is on the James River. That is KiDa's turf. Where are you picking up the boat/starting the trip from?

If you go up the bay to the Rapahanock try the Tides Inn on Carters Creek at Irvington. A great hotel with spa, restaurant and everything else you might want including 2 golf courses.
If you want to get really off the beaten track try either Smith Island or Tangier Island. They still speak with an accent like SW England from the 1600s. Great crabs and very friendly people. BYOB as the islands are dry. There are B&Bs on both islands.
Another out of the way place is Onancock on the eastern shore of Virginia, which is a town with a lot of buildings from the 18th and 19th century. Good restaurants and B&Bs. The town is also somewhat of an artists colony.

WRT Smithfield. KEEP IT BETWEEN THE MARKERS!!!! There is no cutting corners. You go in between Markers 1 and 2 or your not going in.

The Pagan River goes from deep to 0 in about 6 feet. You'll love Smithfield. Unless you have thrusters, try to get there at slack tide. If you do not, I guarantee the tide will be going one way and the wind will be going another. You will end up sideways quick. DAMHIK! Have all lines ready. They will have experinced assistants at the dock to help you.

Great place. Great family ownership. The town is a piece of history preserved. Very relaxing.

The boat is currently at Tidewater Yacht Harbor.

I believe that's where it will be leaving from in a few weeks to Stillwater, MN.

I am in R.I. for Mom's 88th birthday. I shall respond more tomorrow when I get home. First blush if memory serves me is Hampton city pier. Great restaurants and adult beverage within 2 blocks. Nauticus, museums...... Fort Monroe is close by. Dr. Greg is in the area and could clue you in to thet NORVA area. Cruise by a carrier and see just how big they are. Not too impressed with waterside, Norfolk. I understand they are still in negotiation for a reconstruction.
