fishing in channel

... if you're in rush, take it outside. ....

Outside doesn't just happen....you have to travel inside, in many cases, for 10-20 miles or so before you have your first chance to get outside....and when you do try to get outside, the A-Holes are fishing in the channels both leading to and in the inlets....Little Egg Inlet and Barnegat Inlet come to mind...For some reason, A-holes with fishing poles attached to their hands believe that channels are marked and maintained for fishing and not for navigation. You can't have it both ways. Newly paved sections of I-95 would make a great place to skateboard....but that's not what it's there for....

What I love (hate) even more is the idiots that put their crab pots right next to the ICW markers....sure, during the day you have a good chance of seeing the float....come by in the dark, even at slow speed....not so much.

This is classic.....family goes to rent a small boat....the guy selling the bait tells them that the fish are bitting at ICW-XX. The family thinks they need to be on the ICW mark.....like the fish have gps and are waiting by ICW-XX...

Twistie's still open? I've been away from NJ for the past 4-5 years, but assuming I can get my outdrive fixed, will likely be spending August down there. Looking forward to hitting all of my old spots.

We have these same issues on our LI waterways. There are guys tied to the bridges, anchored in the middle of the spans and all around it. The police don't seem to be chasing them off and they are a PIA.

The problem is that if you slowed for all of them, you would never be on plane. That said, I do my best to slow down and not wake anyone. That means down to idle since anything else throws a decent wake.

As far as I am concerned, the guys fishing the channel in the inlet should expect large waves either from boats going by or the ocean itself.

Yes Twistie's was just refurbished and it is now on pilings. It's still there better than ever.

Alk, the ICW between Sea Isle and Strathmere is exactly one of the locations where I had in mind when I started this thread. Yes, Twistie's is going strong. I am down in Avalon (Commodore Bay) I can check if they have any slips for August. I think he has a few.

BillyIII, Can you get back there (twisties or Deauville) coming from the ICW via the daymarkers on low tide? I only go at high tide but I certainly would like to make the trip at mid or low.

Is Bernie still running Commodore Bay? He might remember me, and the 40' Jersey I used to keep there back in 2001. I stopped by in 2007 to say hello; he was still there, but there was only one boat left from back in 'my day'. I'll probably keep my bowrider on the trailer over at Avalon Pointe, as I won't be able to make it down for the middle two weekends of the month - so no sense paying for a full month slip.

When I had my inboards, I avoided that stretch at anyhing but high tide.

I don't know I have never had Wireless One in that area. When we used to boat there I had a Scarab 1 modified with a Berkley jet drive so low water was never an issue. We used to run in and out of Corson's inlet all the time at 60 plus knots. I sure would like to take a cruise there this summer with Wireless One. I have relatives that are full time residents in Strathmere but they only have small Bay boats.
My father in law owns the land to the left of the boat ramp he can't build on it though. My wife's family owns 5 homes in Strathmere. It sure is a really cool lay back town.
