My recollection of the "old days" in Englewood...same fixed docks...is that we had so-called "slide boards", which were 2x6's driven down into the mud with the 6" against the narrow walkway that runs the length of the slip. This prevented the gunwale from hanging-up under the walk. Hang a fender horizontally so it rides up and down the slide board to protect the hull. Since the docks don't float, you need to leave a lot of scope to account for the rise and fall. Longer the line, the easier it will be. Cross the stern lines. Adjust the lines at mid tide, and check them for some time and readjust as they stretch. Lots of folks there go in bow-first.
