Drawback I see is that it is tied to iphone5

Had one and sent it back due to the very limited range. I suppose it would be fine if you wanted to use it for close range heat signatures in the engine room. It also requires recalibration every couple minutes by depressing a slide switch on the back which is a little frustrating.
