Floating Debris

Was down at the marina on sunday and I still cant get over the amount of debris still floating around . We have a pier at the marina that runs east to west. It acts as a magnet at every tide cycle. Its going to be a very dangerous spring if this keeps up.

It is going to be a little tough for a while. I made two short trips in the weeks after the storm. The first was a little hairy with stuff floating around. The next wasn't too bad a week or so later. I think a lot of stuff probably got hung up on the flats. But, there have been a number of flood tides since then and who knows what else is floating around out there.
Lot's of 1200 RPM cruising is in order this year. I'm going to try not to be in a hurry to get places.

I need new props this season, but I'm going to wait till I've taken a few trips without hitting anything before I drop the money. Luckily w/ the I/O's, I can just trim the drives up and replace the props in the water.
All I know is that it won't be as stressful as when I had to take the boat from Babylon to be pulled out at Tanner a week after the hurricane. I dodge some debris on the way and then as I turned down the canal to Tanner a 10'x4' piece of dock floated past me.
As others have said, I think channels are pretty clear...the canals and docks are another story.

Supposedly there is a after market item that someone came up with I heard but I think Volvo is against it. The props pull the boat but because props are forward they pull through clean pristine water. This is where it gets some of the efficiency from. I read alot about this and think about it, if you hit something solid with any prop, your gonna ding the prop. Actually you can have more damage with inboards as you can bend a shaft, rudder, and prop. Teh pod is solid bronze and unless you hit a rock, it ain't gonna damage. So it's just props and they can be repaired.
Bottom line, don't hit nothing as is always the game in boating. Bottom, rocks, logs, etc.
