I am in the process of repairing the floor on either side of my engine on a '88 Imperial 23'. The floor was cut out and then with all the rain we've had lately and the canvas sagging right over the same spot and dripping, the bilge area on the outer part of the box-type stringers is full of water and there are no limber holes to drain down to the center of the boat. These box type stringers are hollow (and adjacent to the engine mount stringers) and I don't think that limber holes are the right thing to do. I plan on bailing out these areas before continuing on with the floor repairs and was wondering what I can do to keep these areas dry in the future.(these areas were dry when the floor was initially removed) Is the floor supposed to keep the water from entering these parts of the bilge? My conclusion to the floor being soft is that the rain gets the carpet wet and it never drys out. I am also considering using a fibreglass cloth over the new plywood and using a poly urethane type non-skid coating in lieu(?) of the carpet. Any problems with that? If the water runs to the back of the boat, it will eventually go to the transom and down into the bilge on either side of the engine. Therefore it should last a long time?
