I live in Missouri and am thinking About buying a 40 foot carver in Florida. Once I buy the boat I will leave it in the Miami area all the time. Any tips on licensing the boat are welcome. Do I license it in Missouri or Florida. Document it? Thanks.

Florida. Otherwise you will eventually get nailed for taxes. If you intend to leave it in Florida, then pay up and you should be good to go. Otherwise after (I think) 6 months you are at risk.

If in Florida, it must be registered by the state. Documenting the boat is optional, but if you plan on taking it to the Bahamas, you should document it.
Of course, if you have a ship's mortgage on it, there's a good chance the mortgage holder will require it.

Florida requires registration and since FL will be "state of principal use" FL is the appropriate state. You won't display FL numbers, just the annual sticker that evidences your payment of the registration fee.

If you keep the boat in Florida it will have to be registered in florida and you will have to pay the sales tax. You dont have to document it, either way you have to register and pay tax.

Only if you are documented.
