Fog in the GSB

I was out Saturday running in fog with viability from 1/10 to 1/4 of a mile and I could not believe the number of go fasts BUZZING around Ocean Beach, Kismet and the Great River with no radar! Yes, they probably had GPS but only a fool would rely solely on GPS in fog and run at 30 knots. They have no regard for safety for themselves or their guests on their boats. Sorry, I just had to vent.

Went down and saw that fog, was a little shocked how fast boats were zipping around and I assumed visibility was better than it appeared. You would think people would slow down in that soup.
 
These idiots always amaze me.............no consideration for anyone else that might be out there! But it doesn't surprise me as most have no consideration when it's sunny!
 
We were less than a mile from home in Merrick, the fog rolled in heavy, and we sat there for a few hours, couldn't see more than 100 yards. The whole time, all I heard was outboards at high rpms, couldn't see them, but heard them...amazing.
 
You should not go any faster that you can see and stop, radar or not.
 
Where are the Bay Constables......Suffolk Police.....and the Coast Guard boats....when this is going on ???.....WTF

But yet about 7 years ago...( with my 28' Dancer ) I was in the State Channel ( past Tobay ) headed for Zacks Bay (on plane)..... I seen the 5MPH sigh getting close by Zacks. I pulled back on the throttles.....comming of plane.... slid past the sign....at maybe 8 mph. They came at me like I was a drug smuggler.......and gave me a $90 summons for speeding....that went on my drivers license.

Its funny......on my license....it says " speeding in excess of 5mph in a 5mph zone." My insurance broker laughs when he sees it.
 
Had the boat fully loaded and ready to head over to Atlantique. The weather was to be near perfect. Even as the F-en fog was rolling in the weather reports were saying a passing shower and then great weather. I stood at the end of my dock and could not see my boat 8 slips down. I reluctantly faced the fact that we were not going anyplace. After all safety first… plus my wife would have kicked my A$$......

We ended up having a great time with our friends along the north dock… The party started Friday night and lasted to late Sunday. I barely made it though the Sopranos. Need to re-watch it tonight, all of sudden my TV went blank at the end… or maybe I fell a sleep. Just kidding.. I know that was their big cliff hanger ending.
