For anyone who's built their own boat....

I don't drink Gin, if it was Bacardi, I too would come help. LOL

I got better than just plain ole' Bacardi Walter. :-) Kinda got a taste for Cap'n Morgan's Dark spiced rum while I was in Mexico! Plenty on hand too! [:-bigeyes] Except for Wayne, he doesn't get any! [:-bigmouth]

+1 one of my favorite drinks even though I rarely drink!

Thanks for your Message Rick... I will continue to enjoy your posts but from your blog.
Just in case others here have missed Rick's last post that Les deleted. Rick has quit this site and now will only be on his own blog.

My thanks to you for your very entertaining and fully enjoyable posts of your "build".

Rick's explanation is in his blog. I dare not include a link, though!

Thanks I got it, Ken. Les you sure you don't want to reconsider? I know it's your board but I have enjoyed this thread.
Thanks,
Bill

Not only an interesting thread by a retired member of the Canadian Coast Guard but we will miss his input in many other discussions.

Guys, I got a complaint about the number of posts that were little more than just links to his blog. As his blog has advertising and is generating revenue for him, I just asked him to stop posting links to his blog per the rules that all you guys approved. I also thanked him for his posts. Next thing I know, I get a very vitriolic response with a nasty post here as well. Essentially I tried to open a dialog with him but just got a rant. I'd be more than happy to have him post here and continue to share his progress. But it got to the point where every single post he made had links to his blog rather than photos posted here.

Thanks Les, it is your board and you have every right to make sure posters comply with the rules of the board. I'm hoping he calms down and perhaps a new dialog can be started?
Regards,
Bill

In all fairness, I don't think he posted links to his blog to generate revenue thru the ads but probably because it is a shortcut and time saver instead of copying and pasting picture link after picture link in a post.

When I was building my boat, I often posted link to a Facebook public album because it just took too much time to upload the pics on photobucket just to link them here.

Pascal, I think your on to something. Even I needed help in posting pictures here recently. It's a PITA to post pictures to Photobucket and then clean the link up to post here.
I have no idea the kind of income that can be generated with Blog links I wouldn't think it could be one's primary income? Then again what do I know?
Bill

I would have no problem with him posting the photos on his blog and then displaying them here. I mentioned to him about setting precedents, etc. We had a guy posting about a PWC docking system that we told he couldn't post. And, of course, the hundreds of people over the years who posted links to forums they were trying to start or pretending to post links to a commercial site they owned. I'm sure most of you remember the "Golly Gee, here's a link to a great new product" posts. Here's the complete list of rules that folks agree to when they register:

By pressing the "Agree" button, you agree that you, the user, are 13 years of age or over. Registrations using email addresses from FREE services such as gmail, freemail, live, yahoo, etc. will not be approved. You are fully responsible for any information or files supplied by this user. You also agree that you will not post any copyrighted material that is not owned by yourself or the owners of these forums. In your use of these forums, you agree that you will not post any information which is vulgar, harassing, hateful, threatening, invading of others privacy, sexually oriented, or violates any laws. You also agree not to post links to or in any way promote websites owned or controlled by you. Links to any commercial sites are prohibited.

As you can see, this is not an overbearing, overly restrictive list of rules. Again, these rules were approved by members of this forum at the time they were written. They aren't arbitrary rules I put in place.

I'll bring it up and here goes the bomb's away, Les I think the problem is that at times you have been selective in allowing posts where commercial intrests have collided with the rules. I'll cite the biggest offender although I really like the RO, Pascal and his cruising links while I find them extremely cool to follow he is posting links of a boat where he is the charter captain.
Pascal I'm not trying to open up a can or worms I'm simply stating what other's have PM'ed me about.
Les I'll say it again it's your board you are the ruler this isn't a Democracy I'm not wanting to embarrass anyone with this post but I feel the need to bring this topic into the open forum.
Les I'll delete the post if you want me too?
I have to repeat this one more time I have no issues with Pascal's trips but there are a substantial number of members that have expressed this view to me.
I will probably regret I ever wrote this post.
Bill

After just reading Bill's aka "Salty Sam's" comments in NBR, it makes me realize this is really petty.
I have nothing more to add.
Bill

I never felt that Pascal's posts were just links to something else. from what I remember they had a lot of content just for BE though the webcam required a link. I have a lot of friends sending links to their blogs of a trip to somewhere but somehow I don't find the blog format very interesting to follow.

An easier way to post PIX here would indeed be an asset.

Yes, Pascal's posts were always full of content and designed to benefit the folks here.

Bill, no complaint from me about what you said, you may have a point as come and think of it I still have an old ad on my web pages which I should remove anyway... I no longer run the webcam since we ve been staying down south and have not done an ICW run since the fall of 2011. Internet service in the Bahamas is too erratic and since we mostly go out on charter I don't want the guests to feel their privacy is invaded Not that it matters now but the reason I used a link to the cam was that folks were refreshing the BE page with the embedded image, drastically increasing bandwidth usage on Les' server
