OK, trying to turn 351windsor over for first time this year. Cranking battery at full charge, so is second battery. I cant get it to turn. So I took a big wrench and turned the motor by hand a few turns, a couple different times. The Ford style solonoid is clicking when I engage the key. I can also jumper the solonoid and it clicks. The big hot wire going to the starter was loose. Tried to tighten it,but the stud was turning, so I had to take it apart, seperately tighten the stud, clean the cable ,re attach it , and tighten it down. Turn the key still no turnover. Undo the ground ,which is hooked to the plate that the solonoid is attached to the exhaust manifold, clean it, tighten it back down. Turn key and I have a very authoratative click now,no turnover.

I tried to tap the starter a bit with my hammer thinking it might be stuck,no deal.

My question is this: if I run a jumper cable from the + side of the battery to the stud on the side of the starter, and I have good ground, will it engage the starter?

Any insights would be appreciated.
Thanks
