I came across the 38 fountain sfc with diesel I/o's. Wasn't really considering another i/o boat but really like the looks and lay out and a good compromise between a convertible and an ec. Anyone have any thoughts, knowledge or experience with these
 
Good boats but once you move away from I/o's will never look back.

Why do you say that? I have had outboard, IO's and straight drive. Each had it's advantages. I would not not rule any out.

Its funny. I was talking to my father in law last night and I told him if I could buy any boat in each class range (center console, flybridge, cuddy cabin), I would go for a 38-40ft Fountain center console.

Great boats, built like a tank, and handle awesome. with the Diesel power, I would find it hard to pass that up.

Did it come from the factory like that or was it done later on in its life when the OBs blew up??
 
I don't know about the cruiser but Fountain made great performance boats. I would expect this boat to be well made and rigged. While Reggie no longer owns the company he is still in the bussiness with a company called Real Fast Boats. For any questions you could call him.
 
Matt, it was factory Cummins qsc bravo threes. It's not the center console it was a full cabin forward and mid like an express cruiser but a great big cockpit for fishing with a bait station fish boxes etc.
 
So even though the drives are B3, the Cummins QSC engines are "Cummins" and not "MerC" adaptations of the Cummins? Most of this is off my page and above my paygrade, but if I recall, some of the MerC versions of various diesels were more problematic than the diesels themselves. And are the B3's new enough to have MerC's improved corrosion protection? If those answers come up positive, sure wouldn't rule this Fountain out. I just tried to find the article I read several years ago that started with words I don't remember but ended with "revenge of the sterndrives." It showed how well I/O's perform in big boats. I think one was a Regal, around 40-ft.
 
J-d my mechanics see big Cummins guys do in going to have Gerry some further info from them on these motors.
