Hi,
Having had a few bad experiences with Fresh Water tank gauges on previous boats that didn't work, over the weekend I installed a Counter system to better keep track of how much fresh water I have actually used - and to my surprise it works just fine !
I purchased a miniature industrial water meter with a reed switch interface and a digital counter. The water meter was inserted in the 1/2 inch line after the boat's water pump, and the counter was mounted above my breaker panel.
Tested it out and it's 100% accurate, uneffected by boat list or movement, and as the counter is battery powered, I didn't need to play with the boat's electrical system.
Total cost was around $200
