Fresh water system pumps question

My fresh water system took a dump.

Jabsco no longer makes the pump ( i did find a couple places on the internet that still have them though) Pump is around $800.00

Jabsco replacement for this is rally not a great replacement because the specs are different.
In other words, the pump I have now says it pumps 9 gallons a minute, and the replacement is 5 gallons a minute. PSI is the same.

Is PSI the force the water will come out of the faucet?
How concerned should I be about gallons per minute?? I don't know how that affects the system?

The boat I have has two heads each have a shower, sink and crapper. Galley has a sink, cockpit has a sink and outside shower. In also have a washer machine.

With that said would the GPM only be a concern if I was running all that stuff at the same time???

9 GPM Really that's sounds really high I think the norm for a boat your size would be 5 GPM. I have a similar amount of systems and I had a 3 GPM which I felt was a bit lite for the requirements and yes if multiple people run sinks/showers you know it! I replaced it this year with a 5 GPM and I find it to be much better this said I seem to run out of hot water much faster. I think you would be fine with the 5 GPM I know Anchor Management has a 5 as well and that is all he needs.
 
Your home runs 5-6 gal/min. 9 gal/min pump makes no sense with a 5 gal. feed.

saw the repair kit, would need two of them since this is a two motor pump. I am going to call Jabsco to see if this kit is all I need. I would prefer new pump, I have never had luck with repair kits.

It would be good if I could use the 5gpm pump , after all since it is mostly just me and the wife on the boat, we rarely use more than one source of water at the same time.

I miss read that. But most tanks can't feed a 9 gallon pump.

Wlater I had the same freshwater dual pump on the Mainship. I found that most of the time the diaphram went bad on one of the two motors heads. It's an easy repair and it should last a few years. My symptoms were one motor would run constantly blowing the fuse. If that's your issue it's a real quick easy fix that lasts for 3 to 4 years. Now that I think about it I had 2 of those pumps and rotated them with the repaired unit but that really wasn't needed.
 
Several years ago my 36 month old, fancy variable speed fresh water pump died.

I replaced it with a simple OFF/ON pump (5gpm?)

I also replaced my leaking Jabsco 'marine" accumulator tank with a standard household unit (the small one)

It has a rubber bladder.

Really made a big difference in my boat's fresh water system.

I heartily recommend an accumulator if you don't already have one.

Combined with the 5gpm pump I believe you will be happy.

I don't have an accumulator on my boat but I was thinking of adding one until I upgraded to the 5 GPM pump. Since I upgraded I haven't seen a need what is the benefit?

Probably not a big benefit for you at 5GPM, it keeps the pump from running constantly while using water, it will catch up and shut off.
I use a Tractor Supply Ag Sprayer Pump that only pumps 1-2 GPM and the accumulator helps keep the water pressure up.
 
So here is what I did with the water pump. I replaced that mega pump (moved location and also moved my hot water heater) with a Shurflo Aqua II Supreme. I also changed the power feed from 24V to 12V. Very simple to do, just moved the wire at the breaker box to a 12v spare breaker. I wanted a 12v pump, so in the future if I needed one, it could easily be obtained locally. The pump I put in has a GPM rating of 5 GPM as opposed to 11 GPM with the OEM pump. The OEM pump is no longer made and the ones that were still available were like $700.00. The pump I installed could be had for $220.00. The PSI on the pump I installed is 50 PSI as opposed to the 40 PSI with the old pump.

The real challenge here for me (never did this) was re-routing all the plumbing (hot water heater and pump). Just an FYI, all the connectors and pipe can be obtained at Lowes. Another FYI, the piping is 5/8 piping but the fittings are sold as 1/2 inch. Something to do with copper piping , so 1/2 inch (CTS) rating is what is used on 5/8 pipe. If you go to West Marine, they don't have the right fittings (did that). Ther fittings that say 1/2 inch are for 1/2 inch pipe.

The water flow and pressure with this pump is so much better than the old pump, night and day!!! My old pump was okay, no complaints, but seeing what this one is, just blows my mind. Also, by moving the pump to where I can see it, will help when I want to clean the strainer. There was no way to clean the strainer where the old pump was located.

By moving the Hot Water Heater (I have the 20 gallon heater) I gained some shelf space. I wanted to put it in different spot (along side the water heater) but could not because of the aluminum support beams under the shelf.
