I'm sure this topic has been hashed over before, but considering the current gas price hikes of late, it's something us novices are considering. This spring I was planning to get another boat (been out of it for about 8 years but sure miss it).
I want about a '34 convertible, probably twin gas since I can't afford a newer diesel. Most of them seem to be running 454 Crusaders. Question is what can I expect for fuel consumption? As a guess, I thought something like 15 gph per motor at cruising speeds, about 2800-3000 rpm. Am I close? If dock gas gets to $4.50 per gallon, I would be burning about $135 of gas per hour. Wow, this could make for a pretty expensive weekend of powerboating. Maybe I should learn how to sail..........
