I replaced one on my Carver and bought a Generic ---it was adjustable to fit any tank...that was 5 years ago and have had no problems...

Mine had universal senders installed by the previous owner, who kept his tanks full. Well, we switched to ethanol fuel and I was running the tanks down for storage, and the sender was "resting" on a bend in the tank which showed the tank half full. Well, one day I ran out of gas in that tank, and the other one was empty too! So,.be sure the float has free play up and down inside the tank!

Your fuel tank was probally made by Florida Marine Tank, (305) 620-9030 and the model number for the tank from Carver is FMT-98AS-CV at least for the starboard side. When they provide tanks to Carver they are complete with sending units as well as hardware. They might be able to provide an exact replacement for that sending unit. Please don't ask me how I know this, it is a long and expensive story...

Thanks all for your input. I called carver and like Bob said the tanks come with the senders pre-installed. The sender manufacturer no longer makes the type on sender that was installed. I purchased an after market unit from Defender marine outfitters and just got it today. I noticed on the new units it says: "Not for use in tanks where mounting holes are through-drilled".
My tanks have the pre-drilled mounting holes that are threaded to accept the mounting screws. I guess I need to get clarification. I didn't know there was any other kind of mounting configuration.

Has anyone needed to find the access tp the fuel sending units on a 1988 Montego 2557? It's a twin engine with only one fuel tank. Thanks for helping me save tearing it up and wasting an afternoon looking in the wrong place.
I know it must be somewhere mid cabin, port side. I have a feeling it's at the foot of the mid cabin berth.....? My fuel gauge shows dead empty doesn't move when started. It used to stop then reset when I hit a few waves but not anymore.
