Furuno Nav Net VX2 Problem

I have a problem where the unit just goes dead, no screen.

So, I start my trip, boot up the unit and all is good. Sometimes the screen goes blank in a minute or five, other times all is good for an hour or so. When the unit crashes, I need to throw the breaker, wait a few minutes, then the unit will boot up. Once I do this, sometimes the screen immediately goes away, other times I am good for hours. Sometimes, the unit (rare) reboots itself??

I am confident it is not a loose connection. In the roughest water it does not cutout, in smooth water it has.

Also, one time while the screen was working, I went to zoom out and lost the screen???

I was told it could need a software update, any truth to that??

I ve had a similar issue on a pair of navnet (2003 vintage) and now on a navnet 3D black box (2009) although usually with the older navnet it was shut a shut down and reboot. Only a couple of times I had to cycle the breaker. In my case it ain't broken enough to fix :)

Could need a software or firmware update.

Sometimes it stays up for 24 hours but rarely more. I ve also had a couple of chart freeze where the lat/Lon tick but the chart is frozen

I put ticket in with Furuno and they got back to me real quick, below is what they suggest.

Yes the first thing i would do is try running the unit with the radar disconnected, sometimes there is a short in the radar that will cause the unit to shut off.

The second thing i would do is upgrade your software and do a master reset on the unit, but remember to back up your waypoits and routes to an SD card or you will lose them when you do a master reset on the unit.

To locate the software you can either go to our web site furuno USA or call here with the serial number handy and we can send you the link, and you will have to find a 2 GIG SD card for the software upgrade, they atre hard to find but you can find one in amazon.

With Furuno, the master reset is key. Doing updates without doing a master reset will def. cause flaky type issues.
