On My 320 in the front berth, there are four flip up locker/closets. We store some of our cloths there. I first started using my head to hold them open while accessing clothing, then I took a nice dowel and cut to size to prop open. This worked just OK but not great for the past 2 years. At the boat show in NY this year, I see that on some of the new 320 models they are now using gas pistons.

I went to the Searay parts dealer on Long Island, SurfSide 3 and order the pistons. But guess what, they don't supply the mounting brackets. So I hop on one of the model boats and see what they use. I then go to local Marine store and match the brackets to the pistons.

I tried to line up and mount but could not find the correct position. So I gave the job to my boat yard staff before I splashed last week and they could not install. SS3 insist that they are the correct part. Now I have pistons with both strait and 90 degree brackets.

The pistons are 10" open 7" closed and 10lb pressure rated.

I may now call SS3 and see if they can give advice or have someone install.

Has anyone done this type of install?
