My 2006 3880 has a problem that the generator will not stay on if started from the panel even though the auto button is set on the generator. It works fine if started directly with the run button on the generator. This boat is a 2006 leftover that had never been in the water

not knowing what kind of genny you have and how it's wired in make it a litlle hard to guess but i once had a sticky OFF switch on a gas Westerbeke. Couldnt' get it to stay running when started from the remote panel because the stop switch on the genny woudl stick...

if you have the wiring diagram you shoudl be able to see how the switches are wired. genny diagram can often be found on the genny manufacturer site.

You might get more responses if you list the type of generator and post this in the engines forum. Regal didn't make your generator so it's not specific to Regal.

Same one I have on my Regal.
Are you pushing the switch and holding it until it starts?
It is a momentary switch and it needs to be held until it starts.
It is not as instant as the run switch directly on the generator.
Also the switch on the panel is wired to the blowers.
The blowers must start before the genny, that is why there is a delay.
Make sure your blowers are operational and that there is not a popped breaker or blown fuse.
It is probably a Kohler issue and not a regal issue, though the wiring for the genny could be a issue.
Try contacting Kohler.

There is also fuses on the genny, check them. I have seen where they get corroded and don't make good contact.

In the Kohler service manual they say the generator will go to sleep after 48 hours of no activity. If you go back to your generator I'll bet bet the display is blank and it requires manually cycling the switch on the genset then it will start the count down again. I have the same genset and the 3" digital status screen with the analog voltage meter all in one single gauge remote. Some of the earlier models had a jumper which can be cut on the main controller board on the generator. I will check my manual and get back to all.

go to sleep?
Guess I don't have that on mine.
Starts up from panel but there is a delay.
I have to hold switch for a good 15 seconds while blowers kick on and start blowing, then it starts. I think there is a built in delay to let blowers runs prior to starting.

I held the switch for at least 30 seconds. The blowers come on, the generator starts, but if I release the switch, the generator shuts off.

Sounds like the switch may be faulty.
Do the blowers keep running?
On mine pushing switch up, starts blowers and starts genny.
Pushing switch up after it is running, shutsdown genny and turns off blowers.

Perhaps ask Regal to ship you a new switch or just pick up one, wire up the same as the other one and see if that solves it. Should be a cheap fix if that is it.

my bet is that the start switch is over riding the low oil/high temp shut down relay and for some reason that circuit is not not functioning correctly on the remote start cycle and is on the genset. sounds like you're shortest path is to get tech support thru kohlers dealer network.

Well, he said it runs fun when starting it from the Genny.
If it runs fine there then there must not be any issues with the genny itself I would think.
