Genset exhaust

My gas genset exhausts through the stern, and under many conditions the fumes roll up the stern into the cockpit.

I am thinking of rerouting the exhaust to the side.

One method I am considering is tapping into the main engine exhaust downstream of the fiberglass silencer.

Any thoughts, suggestions?

Many of us who own Regals with the genset exhaust under the platform have modified it to discharge underwater. This will reduce both the noise and fumes since it is dissipated underwater.

Gary,
I plan to do this mod this winter. Please post or email how you did yours. Thanks.

Looks doable. My boat is older and has a metal thru-hull with a rim outside. I think I can clamp a coupler hose to it and the pvc.

Thanks for the input.

seastheday;

go to Centex's website, they are the folks who make a great deal of the OEM mufflers. they have a product there called an Air/water separater. it is installed down stream of your lift muffler. you can use your transom discharge for the water and install a new side discharge for the air. you'll not only move the fumes to the side of the boat and hopefully away from the cockpit but it will also make a huge difference in the noise. its not an expensive piece and you'll be glad you did.
