This has been around before but now the EPA has another open period for comments. I doubt the EPA will listen to us but that is no excuse for me to send them comments. Keep in mind that archer Daniels and the ethanol lobiests/advocates will load up the EPA mailbox requesting more ethanol. the EPA is very sympathetic to more ethanol in the fuel despite all the negative impact and the fact that a lot of auto's are not compatible with greater than 10%.

The only proposed legislation I have seen regarding E15 exempts marine fuel suppliers from having to offer anything with higher alcohol percentage than E10, and even land stations would offer E15 as an available option for those who want to pay for less energy content per gallon. As I understand it, E10 would still also be available at all land stations to the greater proportion of consumers who prefer that over E15.
I'd mention , over at least 12 years of twin IB boating with E10 only in MA, I have yet to experience any gasohol-related engine issues, except of course the slightly lower n. mileage economy due to the lowered energy content/gallon. Never a clogged filter during the season. Plugs & cylinders stay cleaner.

I have no interest in buying E15 though, but I don't think that is an issue for boaters at gas docks.
Representatives of manufacturers of gasoline-powered cars , trucks and boats are pretty united against E15, (though Elon Musk may well be rooting for it.)

As that article suggests, alcohol content MUST be displayed on the pump, so any responsible boating consumer would simply look.
 
I have answered the Boat U S request for comments to my representatives. I have a 1994 Carver Marine. There is a decal under each fueling point that says "Using fuel with alcohol is dangerous in this vessel. " So far, haven't experienced any problems. I try to always purchase fuel without alcohol. My biggest concern is my in line fuel filters for my Flowscan.

The EPA plan to increase Ethanol in the fuel supply is not via Legislation, it is by Regulation. Overall the EPA plan is to increase ethanol usage over a long period of time. Currently they have a problem since gasoline consumption is not rising so the % of ethanol has to increase to increase the total amount. Since a significant portion of the Auto's are not suitable for more than 10 % Ethanol, the EPA are subsidizing special ethanol pumps to be installed at various filling stations.
One principal concern is who has the liability if the 16 yr old attendant fills a car with high ethanol that is not made for greater than 10%. The other issue is how many pumps is a station required to have.

kevdon, don't worry about that poor auto owner. He was "regulated" into buying a new vehicle.
