Looks like my gimbal ring on my 1984 Mercruiser is worn due to sloppy steering and the fact my outdrive moves back and forth nearly 8 - 10 inches. Is drilling the gimbal housing the only way to remove the gimbal ring short of pulling the engine? Has anyone ever seen the pinch bolts become loose to the point where the steering becomes sloppy? How hard is it to replace the gimbal ring? Have replaced the bellows before on the same boat and should have replaced the gimbal ring at that time. Thanks.
