Need a recommendation for a good electronics shop in our area. I have a couple Raymarine items inop at the moment. GPS reception, water temp and depth aren't working.

Any recommendation where I should take it?

Did they work for the survey?

Sounds like you have to turn on a power switch maybe?

Does the GPS power up and get no position? Check that the antenna is plugged in properly.

Do the other units power up?

Yes and no. The GPS worked for the survey but now has failed with a "DSC signal lost" or something error. After the survey another test run was done where this was observed and the GPS antenna was replaced. The condition is very intermittent at dock and constant at cruise which makes me suspect a loose connection somewhere.

The water temp was off at the survey and this was noted at that time. I have a call in to see what was done to address it. On the first run after I took delivery, the water temp and depth worked, but now neither do.

make sure all your ground wires are clean. sounds like it could be a short.

That's what it sounds like to me. Exactly. A ground short.

Got a bit of news on the depth. It's a feed from the E120 so with that turned off, it won't show depth or temp. Very cool.

Actually the depth/temp/speed comes from the transducer, which sends the signal to a DSM-300. It then sends the signal from the DSM-300 to the E120 head display. Check the ground coming from the power cord of the DSM-300. Also check the three wires from the GPS into a transitional electic data box (if installed) which then ties into the E120 head display.

Is the DSM-300 generally installed near the display or closer to the transducer?

Thinking this through a bit, I'll bet the message I'm getting is "DSM Signal Lost" and the GPS is just fine.

Didn't this boat come out of Mi? Does Raymarine require setting up the "home" region or datum?

Niles- I don't think so, but I'll check when I get back to the boat this afternoon. I'm thinking it's not GPS related and just the DSM communication.

There's also a software update to the E120 and DSM300 that address communication problems. I'm going to apply that first and then diagnose from there.

Bob- Thank you! I found and power cycled the DSM-300 and the problem hasn't returned. Everything is working fine now. I found the install manual for the unit and it lists trouble codes. If it happens again, I'll be able to look at the flashes on the status LED and see what the problem is.

Thank you!
