Time for the annual trip to Freeport for the shark tournament. Anything change with the drawbridge yet? I don't need an opening as long as the clearance is the same as in past years. I know they've been working on the other bridge for years now.

John,
A little off topic but what tournament are you fishing? There is one coming up in Montauk but I didn't know about one out of Freeport.

Is that the tournament that runs from Guy Lombardo? As far as the bridge goes I was through about 2 weeks ago and don't remember there being any major clearance change. They did have some netting up though, maybe to act as a catch if something fell.
Good Luck

John,
the netting from the bridge was dangling down. They appeared to fix it .... Just the normal aholes that tie up to the bridge and blk the entrance... other then that same ole...

Also end of last season they moved the channel along zachs west alittle ... makes it tight again with the fish guys ...

Good luck

Rob

Mark,

It's the Freeport Hudson Anglers tournament, run out of Guy Lombardo Marina as Alliecat mentioned. It's always the same weekend as the Star Island tournament at Montauk. We've occasionally talked about doing the Montauk one, but then I have to deal with getting the boat out there ahead of time and all the extra expenses. The Freeport one is easier since it's closer for me. I think it's about 200 boats these days.

Thanks for the info on the bridge. I think there was netting last year too. As long as I go straight down the middle I have enough room. The channel seemed pretty tight last year too, think it was shoaling on one side so I can see why they moved the buoys. I'm running down there early Friday afternoon so shouldn't be too much traffic. If the weather is nice Sunday I'll probably come home on the outside and do some fluke fishing along the way.

John, there was an article in today's Newsday (6/13) about the new bridge opening times, I believe it said on the :20's and :50's of each hour for Goose Creek.

Thanks, just read the article. I can actually just get through with this boat without the bridge opening, had a full tower on the last one and needed an opening. But I don't have much clearance so wanted to make sure no work was going on. Sounds like I should be okay.
