Well, I'm a happy man...we slept on the boat Friday/Sat/Sunday nights and the wife wanted to stay over Monday but I said no (go figure). It was a beautiful weekend weather wise but the real enjoyment was watching the kids row to shore on the dinghy by themselves and the ability to ferry in guests as needed. We had some old friends on our boat and a few boats stopped by to raft up...simply incredible. I decided to stick with the old grill (magma party size) and I'm happy with this decision as I'm afraid a barrel style on the transom would be dangerous for the kids. Good food, great company, awesome weather and a nice comfortable boat surely made the weekend enjoyable. Most of all, the wife is hooked...I'd say the upgrade was worth every penny.
Of course, we did have some dilemas which reminds me of why boating is a sport and the goal is to conquer the unknown challenges and keep a great attitude. Lets see: Friday the toilet wouldn't stop running...found, removed, disassembled and cleaned the fresh water flush solenoid.
Saturday we rafted and towed the dink. Found out just how annoying it is to get a line caught in the prop. It took about 1/2hr to dive down there and cut it all lose. Something's wrong with the starboard battery, it drains...it also controls the toilet flush! This battery setup is weird...one batt for genset, two batts for the engines and they SPLIT the house duty. What's worse, the generator was running for five minutes and started making terrible noises. I just found and replaced the impeller which fixed the problem.
The good news is we had a blast in spite of the challenges...and we learned alot about our new boat. Even my life long friend who's a number cruncher (CFA actually) appreciates the lifestyle and expense. He couldn't believe how beautiful it was in the Westchester Riviera.
Oh and to test my frustration, when we got back from being out Monday from 2-7pm, I found my dock side power cord was STOLEN....God help the idiot that did THAT...in the middle of the day...on a crowded weekend. However, even this was not enough to spoil the day.
